The sauce that comes with this meal was surprisingly both sweet and spicy. It gave a nice base to the meal and took the place of things like rice or pasta. The masa cake is a thin cake made of corn and corn meal.
I love shrimp and I love plantains which is what initially drew me to the dish. This dish featured six jumbo shrimp grilled on a sugar cane skewer and served over plantains and a masa cake. Since my dad and I were out for my 21st birthday, I decided to be a bit adventurous and order a dish that I had never tried before, Camarones Alambres (pictured above).
